Flexi-Rod FAIL!!!

So last week I did a post about being bored with my hair & I said that I would try to get more creative with my styling because there are so many twist-outs that can be done! With that being said I went ahead and decided to try out a flexi-rod set based off the YouTube video by SimplYounique:

I was so pumped to try this out & even had my husband run out to the store to grab me some more flexi rods! Here are all the products that I used:

  • Jane Carter Nourish & Shine
  • Jane Carter Wrap & Roll
  • Tropic Isle Castor Oil Lavender Scent
  • Denman Brush
  • Rat Tail Comb
  • Hair Clips
  • Flexi Rods

I rolled my hair which was damp & then slept on it. The morning came & I was so excited to see the results! But when I started to take my hair out of the rods I was not getting that SimplYounique results…at ALL :( This is what I ended up with after I attempted to fluff & twirl my hair…

My facial expression is one of concern & confusion! LMAO :) I just don’t know what I did wrong but one thing for sure & two things for certain is that I didn’t do something right. SMH

One thing that was great about this style is that my hair is still moisturized from the Jane Carter Solution Nourish & Shine and the castor oil mix. My hair feels great yet it looks questionable. Even though this attempt was a fail I will try again until I get it right. When you attempt new hair styles and they are a fail do you try again or hang it up?

Any ideas as to what I did wrong? Any suggestions on how I can work with flexi rods? Let me know by commenting below or e-mailing me at jamila@naturalgalsdiary.com :)

  1. Are you sure your hair was saturated with product(s)? Was your hair completely dry when you took them out? The amount of tension used could also be an issue.

    • Hi Kat! My hair was saturated & I used enough product but I think the issue was the way I rolled my hair. I’m going to make sure that I use more tension next time too! Thanks for the tips :)

  2. omg woman, your face killed me! i might even mention that face in an upcoming post of my own!

i know your pain. i’ve ended up with that face more than a few times.

perhaps you can try using a lighter oil when you separate the curls. and try not to over-manipulate. maybe your holding product doesn’t have enough hold to achieve the smoothness that is needed.

when simplyounique trotted out that ecostyler, i almost fell off my chair. i know how you feel about that product… ha!
    :)

keep us posted on your next attempt!
